Thieves have a field day during Khattar’s road show

ROHTAK:SEVERAL BJP leaders and other people have complained of theft during chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s road show in Sonepat on Saturday evening. Despite the tight security around the cavalcade, the pickpocket­s managed to steal valuables taking advantage of a good turnout.

Sonepat BJP district spokespers­on Neeraj Kumar said BJP Mandal Mahamantri Srikant Bharadwaj’s ATM card was stolen following which Rs 18,000 were debited from his account. Besides, Rs 20,000 cash was also stolen from Bharadwaj’s pocket.

“We are hopeful the thieves will be captured in the ATM’S CCTV camera,” he said.

Another BJP leader Naveen Mangla was robbed of Rs 35,000 cash from, said Kumar, whose two mobile phones were stolen from his pockets.

Satyapal Singh Jangra, the president of Brahmin Education Trust in Sonepat lodged an FIR with police saying his wallet containing Rs 55,000 cash, credit and debit cards and other important documents, was stolen from his pocket when he was standing to welcome the CM with a bouquet outside Mehfil banquet hall.

Earlier, during the CM’S road show in Rohtak in May, as many as 23 complaints of pickpocket­ing were reported. The CM had said his road shows were not a propaganda for upcoming elections but ‘instrument to reach out to people, to understand and resolve their concerns’.
