RAVI SHANKAR SEEKS SUPPORT FOR ANTITRIPLE TALAQ BILL

NEW DELHI: The proposed law to make the use Talaq-e-biddat, or instant triple talaq, by a Muslim man for divorcing his wife a penal crime, should not be seen from the prism of religion, Prasad said. He said “hundreds of Muslim women” had met him and thanked him for bringing the draft law which is pending in Parliament. He appealed to women leaders and MPS to support the bill in Parliament “by rising above party lines”. Under the proposed law, instant triple talaq in any form - spoken, in writing or by electronic means such as email, SMS and Whatsapp would be illegal and void.
