Bathinda woman held for killing 6-year-old son

BATHINDA: A woman brutally stabbed to death her six-year-old son at their residence in Bhai Mati Das Nagar here on Sunday.

Victim Harkirat Singh was a student of Class 1 at a private school in the city.

Civil Lines station house officer (SHO) Rashpal Singh said the police have arrested accused Rajbir Kaur, 35, who stabbed the child with a ‘kirch’ (dagger) while giving him a bath at around 10.30 am.

“The child was not ready to take bath, but his mother dragged him to the bathroom where she put a piece of cloth in his mouth so that he couldn’t make any noise. After taking his clothes off, she stabbed him in the chest and stomach multiple times, resulting in his death,” he added. He said they are questionin­g the accused to ascertain the motive behind the murder. The woman is an MA and BED.

On the statement of victim’s grandfathe­r Gurcharan Singh, the police have registered a case against the accused under Section 302 of IPC

Gurcharan and Parminder Singh, father of the deceased who is a property dealer, were outside the house washing their car while the victim’s grandmothe­r was inside when the woman committed the crime.

The SHO said the police are investigat­ing the case from all angles. Bathinda SSP Navin Singla said the police have been told that the mother used to love the child a lot and she seems to be suffering from some mental disorder.

“The mother is in trauma and we will investigat­e to know the motive,” he said.
