Private school owner gunned down over ‘old rivalry’ in Hisar

HISAR: The owner of a private school was shot dead, allegedly over an old rivalry, by more than half a dozen assailants in Mangali village of Hisar district late on Sunday, police said.
Police have booked four suspects in the case, who have been identified as Surjeet, Ravinder, Hanuman and Lala. The deceased, Mahaveer Singh, 40, owned a school in Mangali. His body has been sent for the postmortem examination to a general hospital in Hisar.
Sanjay Kumar, nephew of the victim, said, “There was an ongoing rivalry between my uncle and three of the suspects since 2001 as the former was accused of murdering their fathers.”
“My uncle was out on bail granted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court,” he added.
Sanjay further told mediapersons that those murdered were Surjeet’s father Ram Murti, Ravinder’s father Dilip Singh, and Lala’s father Krishan Kumar.
Police spokesperson Harish Bhardwaj said, “The incident took place at 9.30pm when the victim was sitting with his friends near his house. The victim received more than seven bullet injuries on his face, belly and back. Police have started investigation into the matter and detained few youths of the village.”
A case has been registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Arms Act against the four identified and few unidentified people.
Police teams have been formed to nab the accused, the police spokesperson added.
