Liquor contractor murder: Barnala cops verifying 4K mobile users
BARNALA:WITH no headway in the murder of a liquor contractor, Himanshu Dania (28), who was shot at by two men with their faces covered on July 5 night, police are scrutinising mobile tower data and have started asking over 4,000 subscribers to come in person and get their details verified.
The assailants had fled with ₹5.5 lakh in a bag Dania was carrying on a motorcycle with his friend who was riding pillion when they were on the way to their office after collecting daily sales from a liquor shop opposite the local bus stand.
Dania was rushed to the civil hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (Ludhiana).
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rajesh Kumar said, “We have got mobile tower dumps from five companies and we hope to finish the scrutiny exercise in a week. We are also scrutinising the footage obtained from over 60 CCTV cameras installed at different locations.”
SSP Harjeet Singh said, “We are not going to call such a large number of mobile subscribers. I cannot disclose the actual number of subscribers we are calling since it is a part of investigation.”
IGP (Patiala range) AS Rai said, “We do not want to harass the public. Such a large circle cannot be called for verification. I am instructing the Barnala police to stop this.” The victim’s business partner Sachin Sood said, “We carried out on candle march recently and demanded arrest of assailants of Himanshu Dania.”
