AMRITSAR: A 35-year-old man was shot dead by three persons, including two brothers, at Manjh village, falling under Lopoke police station, on Tuesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Paramjit Singh, alias Kalu, of Manjh village, while the accused are Dilbagh Singh, his brother Nishan Singh and Udham Singh of the same village.

Police said when Paramjit was returning from his fields at 7.30pm, the accused waylaid him and Dilbagh fired a shot at him with his riffle and fled, police said.

Paramjit died on the way to hospital, police said.

A police team led by senior superintendent of police (SSP) Parampal Singh reached the spot and started investigation.

The SSP said Dilbagh was recently released from a jail after completion of a 27-year sentence in a murder case. “One of Dilbagh’s sons is in jail in a drug smuggling case,” he added.

The SSP said preliminary investigation reveals that Dilbagh was upset over Paramjit’s illicit relationship with a woman of his family.

A case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused, who are absconding, the SSP said, adding that hunt has been launched to nab him.

Paramjit is survived by his wife Palwinder Kaur and two minor sons — Sahilpreet and Kamaldeep.
