15-yr-old Gurukul K’shetra boy found dead in hostel
KARNAL: A Class-9 student of Gurukul Kurkshetra was found hanging with a towel from a window in his school hostel room on Tuesday evening. The deceased was identified as Jatin Kumar, 15, a resident of Majri village of Jhajjar district.
Kurukshetra superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Garg said, “In preliminary investigation, it seems to be a suicide, but a conclusion can be drawn only after thorough probe.” The police said the body was handed over to the family members after postmortem at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Civil Hospital of Kuruksheta.
Police officials associated with the investigation said that postmortem report suggests hanging as the cause of death but the police will wait for the viscera report for which, samples were sent to Forensic Science Laboratory at Madhuban.
According to the Gurukul staff, Jatin did not have dinner on Tuesday evening and was found hanging from his room’s window around 8 pm. He was rushed to a private hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead.
Meanwhile, Shashi Kumar, father of the deceased, alleged foul play and demanded that the death be investigated as a murder. He also accused the school authorities of negligence.
However, Kulwant Saini, president of the school, refuted the allegations saying that the child did not want to stay in the hostel but his father forcibly left him there on July 9 after summer vacation and he was stressed.
“Jatin was not happy since his father left him in the hostel. He shared his unhappiness with his roommates but did not talk to the warden or his teachers about it,” he added.
Saini said the CCTV footage shows Jatin inspecting the adjoining rooms before taking the extreme step.
As per the Gurukul staff, Jatin joined the school in Class 8. He was good in studies and scored around 85% in the previous class.
Having a strength of around 1,400 students from Classes 5 to 12, the boys’ boarding school is one of the oldest educational institutions of the state and Himachal Pradesh governor Acharya Dev Vrat is the patron of the school.
