RAJA WAS OPERATING THE NETWORK FROM JAIL WITH THE HELP OF ANOTHER INMATE PARDEEP KUMAR

AMRITSAR: The crime investigation agency (CIA) wing of Amritsar police has busted a heroin smuggling racket that was allegedly operating from Amritsar central jail, with the arrest of two brothers on Sultanwind Road on Wednesday.

The duo was held with 275gm heroin. The accused are Veer Singh aka Veeru and Gulshan Singh aka Prince, both of New Azad Nagar in Amritsar.

Police said that the accused had been smuggling around 1kg heroin per month on instructions of their brother Darshan Singh aka Raja, who is a gangster and is lodged in the Amritsar jail.

raja is said to be a close aide of one of Punjab’s dreaded gangsters, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Police said Raja has been operating the network from inside the jail through mobile phone.

Addressing a press conference at his office, CIA Amritsar in-charge Vavinder Mahajan said that a team led by assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sushil Kumar laid a naka near the petrol pump on Sultanwind road.

“At the naka, the team stopped the accused, who were riding an Activa scooter. During checking, the team recovered 275gm heroin and arrested the accused,” he said. The accused have confessed that their brother Raja used to give them directions. They told the police that Raja had been operating the network from jail with the help of another prisoner, Pardeep Kumar aka Pindu, of Gujjarpura.

“After presenting the accused in a local court, we will ask for their remand and further investigate about the source of heroin and the customers,” Mahajan said.

A case has been registered under Sections 21/61/85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the B-division police station. “We will bring in Raja and Pindu for interrogation,” Mahajan added.
