MAN, DAUGHTERIN­LAW ARRESTED WITH 50GM HEROIN

TARN TARAN: The special task force (STF) wing of the Tarn Taran police have arrested a man and his daughter-inlaw and recovered 50gm heroin and an electronic scale from their possession at Panjwar village, 20km from the district headquarte­rs, on Thursday.

The accused have been identified as Surinder

Singh aka Shinder and his daughter-in-law Jaswinder Kaur, of Ibban Kalan village, which falls under the jurisdicti­on of Chatiwind police station in Amritsar.

Tarn Taran STF in-charge, inspector Sukhwinder Singh Randhawa, said that his team was patrolling near the Panjwar village in search of drug peddlers. “When we reached near Panjwar bus stop, on the basis of suspicion, we stopped the duo and conducted a physical search of the man,” he said.

“We recovered 50gm heroin from his possession, worth ₹25 lakh in the internatio­nal market. We sent for a woman constable, for checking of the woman. Upon her search, the woman constable recovered an electronic scale from her bag. The duo was then arrested,” he added.

A case was registered under Sections 21/29/61/85 of the NDPSACT at Chabhal police station. During interrogat­ion, Surinder told that in the past, he has been booked thrice under NDPS Act and his kin works as drug peddlers.

A case under Sections 7, 8, and 13.1(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the assistant subinspect­or, Sandeep Singh and Harpreet Singh at Tarsikka police station.

The matter has been handed over to Jandiala deputy superinten­dent of police (DSP) Gurpartap Singh Sahota.

The DSP will submit a report after which the next course of action will be decided.
