40-yr-old school bus driver axed to death in Sonepat

ROHTAK: In yet another incident of murder in Sonepat, a 40-yearold man was axed to death by three unidentifi­ed assailants in Mohana village of the district on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Jitender Singh, a resident of Ratangarh village in the district.

Singh worked as a bus driver at Chhotu Ram School in Sonepat. On Thursday afternoon, he was taking the bus back to the school after dropping the kids home when he was stopped midway by the three assailants.

The police said they pulled him down, dragged him on the road and brutally stabbed him multiple times with an axe. He died on the spot.

The police have sent his body for postmortem at the PGI, Khanpur Kalan.

Mohana station house officer (SHO) Naveen Kumar said the assailants fled the spot and their identities could not be ascertaine­d so far.

A case of murder has been registered against the three ‘unknown’ men.

He said the family of Singh has not named anyone as a suspect in his murder.

The family has maintained that Singh had no enmity with anyone, the police said.

He had been working at the school as the driver for the past over 10 years, they said.

The police said they were scanning the CCTV footage in the area to get clues about the killers and have formed three teams to nab them.

This was the 10th murder in Sonepat in the past two weeks, raising security concerns among the residents.
