Accused roamed streets for 72 hrs before surrender
THE ACCUSED WAS PRESENTED BEFORE A CITY COURT ON SATURDAY, WHICH REMANDED HIM IN POLICE CUSTODY
GURUGRAM: The prime suspect in the case pertaining to the death of a woman IAS aspirant had roamed around bus stands, railway stations, and other areas in Delhi and Gurugram for three days before surrendering on Friday evening, the police said on Saturday.
The deceased, Priyanka, 23, was found dead hours after she had checked into a guest house in Gurugram’s Sector 46 with the accused on the evening of July 23.
Surender Singh, station house officer (SHO), Sector 50 police station said that during interrogation, the accused, who was a friend of the victim’s, has denied assaulting her at the guest house.
“The accused said that they had an argument in the room. Later, he heard her calling out for him from the bathroom and found her lying unconscious on its floor. He then took her to the hospital,” the SHO said.
An autopsy conducted at the Civil Hospital, Gurugram, on July 24 suggested that the victim died due to a partial rupture of the liver, leading to internal haemorrhage. She showed no external injury marks or signs of assault.
The accused was presented before a city court on Saturday, and later sent to the police custody for three days. However, the exact reason behind the victim’s death still remains shrouded in mystery.
“We are questioning the accused, and hopefully more information would come out during further interrogation,” Singh said.
On July 23, at around midnight, the accused took her in an unconscious state to a private hospital in another man’s car, where she was declared dead on arrival
“Interestingly, the accused while filling up hospital forms for her had entered his correct name and address on it. He also called up his family members to the hospital before he fled,” Singh said on Saturday.
Singh said that the accused surrendered to police after the latter’s family convinced him over phone. On Friday evening, he came to the police station along with his mother.
Police had recovered a case of 12 beer bottlesat the room where the couple had stayed.
