AAP HEADING FOR DIVIDE, SAYS DR GANDHI

CHANDIGARH: Patiala MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi on Tuesday said the AAP was facing a crisis and heading for a vertical split.

“This will happen in a matter of few weeks,” he said at press conference here.

Batting for more autonomy to the state unit, Gandhi, who was suspended from the primary membership of the AAP about three years ago for alleged anti-party activities, said Khaira was raising the issue of intra-party democracy that he and other party leaders had raised a long time ago.

The AAP came into existence with the ideals that they would be no personalit­y and no high command culture but had become personalit­y driven, he added.

Asked if he would attend the Bathinda meet, Gandhi replied in the negative.

Gandhi, who has floated his own outfit, Punjab Manch, also demanded a review of the “entire gamut of the Centre-state ties” and more “internal autonomy” for the states. He said the Centre has been usurping the states’ rights in the name of federalism. “The diversitie­s that India is proud of, can blossom only under the democratic conditions of federal structure,” he added.

Any split in the party without attracting the anti-defection law is only possible if 14 MLAS (twothirds of the total strength) come together to form a separate unit. However, Khaira and other MLAS supporting him have repeatedly said that they will stay in the AAP and work to strengthen it.
