POLICE SAID KUMAR KILLED HIS WIFE ON THE NIGHT OF JULY 23 AND CAME TO THE STATION ON THE MORNING OF JULY 26 TO REGISTER A MISSING PERSON’S COMPLAINT AFTER HE HID THE BODY

ROHTAK: In a shocking twist to the murder of a 60-year-old woman, Rajbala, whose decomposed body was found inside the bed box in her bedroom at her house in Bhiwani, the police on Tuesday arrested her husband for bludgeoning her to death in an inebriated state.

The accused, Ramesh Kumar, 65, was produced in court on Tuesday and taken on remand by the police. The police said Kumar killed his wife on the night of July 23 and came to the police station on the morning of July 26 to register a missing person’s complaint after he hid the body in the bed box. The police said Kumar, a security guard at a private school, came home drunk on the night of July 23 and demanded sex from his wife. However, when she refused it and further scolded him for drinking too often, he got angry and smashed a wooden stick (used to wash clothes) on her head. When she did not die, he strangulated her with a dupatta.

For two days he kept the body in open, police said, adding, but when it started smelling, he hid it inside the bed box and removed her jewellery to project it as a case of loot. On July 26, Kumar informed his children that their mother was missing and lodged a missing person’s complaint with the police.

In the complaint, Kumar claimed his wife was present at home till the afternoon of July 25 but went missing when he came back home later in the evening. He said he thought she had gone somewhere in the neighborhood, but claimed that she did not return home that night.

As his relatives rushed in to enquire about his wife, one of them on the morning of July 27 felt a foul odour coming from the bed and opened it to find Rajbala’s body inside. The police then registered a case of murder against unknown person(s).

Bhiwani city police station SHO Jai Singh said they first suspected Kumar’s role in the murder when the autopsy report revealed that she was dead for over four days, even as Kumar claimed his wife was alive till two days ago. During sustained interrogation, he confessed to have murdered his wife in an inebriated state.
