2 brothers among 5 killed in mishaps

FEROZEPUR/GURDASPUR: Five people, including two brothers, were killed and six others were injured in road accidents in Fazilka and Gurdaspur districts, police said on Thursday.

A three-wheeler, carrying around dozen labourers from Srigangana­gar of Rajasthan, overturned near Gumjal village in Abohar sub-division of Fazilka district late Wednesday night, when its driver lost control due to a snag in tyres.

About a dozen people were injured in the incident, but even as some people were trying to help them, a canter coming from Srigangana­gar hit them killing three people on the spot.

The deceased included Bhimsen, 40, driver of the threewheel­er who was a resident of Jandwala Hanuvanta village of Abohar; Karnail Singh, 60, who was injured after the threewheel­er overturned, and Jagjit Kamboj, who had stopped on the way to help the injured.

The others injured in the incidents — Balwinder Singh, Mahender Singh, Pala Singh, Kashmir Singh and Fumman Singh.

BIKE-SCOOTER COLLISION

In another accident, two brothers were killed when their bike collided with an Activa scooter in Gurdaspur on Thursday.

The accident took place when brothers Afi Chaudhary and Abhi Chaudhary, residents of Gurdaspur, were going on their bike to Chak Sharif. Their bike collided head on with the scooter coming from the opposite side at Gunnopur village.

The two brothers were rushed to the civil hospital, Gurdaspur, where they succumbed to their injuries.

Scooter rider Sadhu Singh of Jhanda Lubana was injured.
