- HT Correspondent

ROHTAK : The police arrested a couple for running a prostitution racket from their house in Hanuman Colony of the district. The accused couple was identified as Satish Bagri and his wife Manisha.

Police said the incident came to light when one of the sex workers at Bagri’s house called 100 to complain.

The worker, who said she was from West Bengal and was forced into this profession due to the responsibility of raising her four-year-old son after her husband’s second marriage, complained that Bagri had brought her to Rohtak on a promise of paying her ₹15,000 every week.

However, she said he had not paid her anything and was forcing her to go with ‘clients’. She said there were four other women besides her at Bagri’s house who too were not paid anything by him and were threatened of dire consequences if they refuse his orders.

Based on her call, a police team raided the location and rescued the five women.

They arrested the couple that was running the prostitution racket from the first floor of their house and had kept the women workers hostage.

A case has been registered against the duo under Sections 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under Sections 3 and 4 of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act.
