HIGH ALERT SOUNDED IN JAMMU

JAMMU: A high alert was sounded in the winter capital here on Thursday after inputs of vehicle with suspected terrorists in Narwal area put the security forces into a tizzy.

Defence spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand said that immediatel­y after inputs about suspicious movement of two suspects in Narwal area reached us, the army launched a search operation.

“Though quick reaction teams have also been deployed, so far it has turned out more of a speculatio­n than anything else,” he added.

On the Independen­ce Day, security was already heightened in the capital city, which has always remained high on terror radar of various terror outfits.

This year, Jammu city was first rocked by a terror attack at Sunjuwan military station attack on February 10 in Jammu which left six soldiers and a civilian dead.

On May 24, unidentifi­ed ultras had lobbed a grenade from the flyover at Jammu bus stand that injured four including three cops. On August 6, a Delhi bound terrorist with eight live grenades was arrested in the city from Gandhi Nagar locality.

In September 2016, 19 army personnels were killed and more than 20 injured when four heavily armed militants sneaked into the administra­tive buildings of the 12 Infantry Brigade in Uri. The militants had managed to enter into camp through security breaches, after the attack, the camp has been fully secured.

After Uri attack the security forces managed to foil at least two attacks on the big army installati­on of Rashtriya Rifles in Baramulla town and Langate both the attempts were foiled.

In 2017, another attempt was foiled when militants tried to storm the CRPF camp in Sumbal area in north Kashmir. Four militants were killed in the attempt.

In August 2017, eight forces personnel were killed when three militants entered into the district police lines in Pulwama town. The militants were also killed.

In another attack in 2017, three army men and two militants were killed when fidayeen militant managed to sneak into an army camp at Panzgam, close to the Line of Control in Kupwara.
