Wanted criminal, accomplice held after encounter
GURUGRAM: A dreaded criminal and an alleged sharpshooter of Binder Gujjar gang were arrested by the special task force (STF) of Haryana police on Friday night after a brief exchange of fire near Subhash Chowk in Sector 34.
The STF team, headed by Surinder Kumar, arrested Moninder alias Kallu alias Monu, who carried a reward of ₹1 lakh on his head and was wanted in at least two dozen cases in Gurugram, including the Raju Shetty murder case of 2015.
Kallu was arrested along with his associate Udham Singh alias Bachhi, a resident of Palwal. He was on the run after allegedly murdering Ram Karan alias Tony, who ran a tent house business in Islampur, Sector 38, on August 1, and plotting the murder bid on his uncle in Tigra village on August 5.
Kumar received a tip-off on Friday that Kallu had been spotted in his village, Tigra. “First, we planned to corner him at his village. However, before we could reach his village, he left his house along with his accomplice Udham on a two-wheeler,” Satheesh Balan, deputy inspector general of police (STF) Gurugram, said, adding that Kallu got wind of the raid and fled the village.
They tried to intercept his motorbike near Subhash Chowk.
The STF personnel were waiting for him near Subhash Chowk, seeing them, he opened fire. “In retaliation, STF team also opened fire and one of the bullets hit Kallu’s right leg and he slumped to the ground,” said Balan adding that he was arrested and taken to Civil Hospital for treatment. He was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, police said.
Kallu, along with Singh, were booked under sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assaults), 332 (voluntarily causes hurt), 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of IPC at Sadar police station.
Balan said Kallu met Udham Singh alias Bachhi inside Bhondsi jail. “After coming out of jail, they were together and killed Tony in Islampur village. They also tried to kill Kallu’s uncle in Tigra village,” said Balan, adding that on Friday they were planning a carjacking when they ran into the STF team.
According to STF officers, Kallu is a contract killer and on the direction of gangster Binder Gujjar, he had allegedly killed Raju Shetty in Sector 5 in 2015. A total of 17 cases are registered against Kallu at different police stations of Gurugram. Of these,10 are registered at Sadar police station.
Kallu is alleged to have committed murders and robbery on the direction of Gujjar.
