Gangster, aide held with two pistols, 10 cartridges

Harpinderj­it Singh alias Roopa has 12 cases registered against him including an attempt to murder and several robberies, say SBS Nagar police

SBS NAGAR: Following a brief chase, the district police have arrested a category-b gangster and his aide, here on Saturday. The police recovered two pistols, 10 cartridges, ₹27,000 and a motorcycle from their possession.

The accused has been identified as 32-year-old Harpinderj­it Singh alias Roopa of Jidowal, a B-category gangster, and his companion 28-year-old Manjit Singh of Krishna Nagar in Banga.

The third gang member, identified as Gaurav of Behalpur, Hoshiarpur, managed to flee from the spot, police said.

Deputy superinten­dent of police (DSP) Mukhtiar Rai said,accused Roopa and Manjit were arrested by a police team from a check post.

“During a police nakabandi at Chakdana village, a police team signalled the three bike-borne accused to stop for checking. But, the trio ran away, following which the cops chased them and apprehende­d two,” DSP said.

Rai said, Roopa has 12 cases registered against him including an attempt to murder and several robberies.

The accused has confessed to his involvemen­t in robbing ₹27,000 from a liquor shop in Banga at gunpoint and another robbery of ₹26,000 from a liquor shop on Garhshanka­r Road. The accused had also snatched a motorcycle at gunpoint from a Bakhlaur resident.

Meanwhile, a case under Sections 392 (wrongful restraint), 336 (endangerin­g life), 334 (causing hurt on provocatio­n), 379-B (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act has been registered against the trio.
