5gm heroin, intoxicant­s seized from Amritsar jail

AMRITSAR: Three prisoners were booked and a visitor was arrested after the Amritsar Central Jail authoritie­s recovered intoxicant­s, heroin and a mobile phone, here on Friday.

The jail inmates from whose possession the recovery was made have been identified as Kuldeep Singh aka Goldy of Village Rana Wala in Tarn Taran, Gurpreet Singh aka Prince of Guru Arjun Dev Avenue in Tarn Taran and Maninder Singh aka Manga of Gokalpura Mohalla in Tarn Taran.

The trio were booked under Sections 21-22-61-85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances (NDPS) Act and 42 of the Prisoners Act.the visitor has been identified as Balbir Singh of Bathinda. Balbir has been booked under the same charges of the NDPS Act and Section 42, 52 A of the Prisoners Act at Islamabad police station.

The cases have been registered on the complaint of three different assistant superinten­dents of the jail (ASJS).

In his complaint, ASJ Gurjant Singh said that during the routine checking, he recovered 10gm intoxicant­s from the possession of accused Kuldeep Singh.

The second complaint was lodged by ASJ Samsher Singh. He said, during a search operation on the jail premises, he recovered 110 intoxicant tablets, 8gm intoxicant­s from the possession of Gurpreet Singh. He also recovered 300 tablets from Manjinder Singh.

ASJ Gurdeep Singh said, “Balbir Singh had come to meet a prisoner in the jail. While searching him, a mobile phone and 5gm heroin was recovered from his possession, following which he was arrested.”

Sub-inspector (SI) Mukhtar Singh of Islamabad police station said, following a complaint by the jail authoritie­s, a case was registered against the accused. “One of the accused, Balbir Singh, will be produced in a local court for police remand,” he said.
