Victim’s lawyer opposes bail to accused

JAMMU: Bakerwal activist and rape accused Talib Hussain was produced before a local court in Samba on Saturday.

The victim’s lawyer advocate AK Sawhney strongly objected to bail application moved by the accused and demanded CBI probe into at least eight FIRS registered against the accused in various police stations.

Talking to media persons, Sawhney said, “It was first hearing into the case and on behalf of the victim, we objected to his bail application. A case under Section 376 (rape) of the RPC and 4/25 Arms Act was registered against him,” he said.

The lawyer alleged that it was not the first FIR against the accused and that Talib’s elder brother had raped his wife and Talib had demanded a dowry of ₹10 lakh from his wife’s father.

The lawyer also claimed that during Kathua case, Talib engineered an attack on Hiranagar police station in which some cops were injured in stone-pelting.

“I am shocked how this person was not arrested and was roaming freely for five years. It shows that despite eight FIRS against him, the police didn’t arrest him. All this needs to be investigated by the CBI. Let him be tried in all eight cases outside J&K,” he said.

Talib Hussain was arrested on August 1 for allegedly raping a married woman in a forest in Udhampur district.

Hussain, who spearheaded the campaign in the infamous Kathua rape and murder case of an eight-year-old nomadic girl, was arrested from Tral in Pulwama district of Kashmir.
