NARSI RAM’S UNIQUE BRANDING OF HIS SMALL SHOEREPAIR SHOP HAD IMPRESSED BIZ TYCOON ANAND MAHINDRA WHO SENT A NEW KIOSK FOR HIM

ROHTAK: Narsi Ram, a cobbler in Jind whose idea of branding his small shoe-repair shop as ‘hospital for injured shoes’ impressed business tycoon Anand Mahindra, has now got a new ‘hospital’, courtesy Mahindra.

The new kiosk, designed by Mahindra’s team in Mumbai, was delivered to Narsi Ram in Jind and he started using it from Saturday.

It is a foldable kiosk that has a sitting area for Narsi, two benches for his customers, and a well-organised rack to keep the shoes.

The new kiosk, too, reads ‘hospital for injured shoes’ and lists Dr Narsi Ram as the on-duty doctor. It also has a Beti Bachao Beti Padhao logo on it.

“I’m very happy and thankful to him (Mahindra). This will get me more customers and I can now work even during hot and rainy weather,” he said.

Narsi, who has been setting his shop at Patiala Chowk in Jind for the past 20 years, had previously hung a that encapsulated the features of a hospital. The banner included OPD timings and boasted of German technique used for treatment of the injured shoes.

The photo was received by Mahindra on his Whatsapp. Impressed, Mahindra had posted the photograph on Twitter saying he wanted to invest in Narsi’s startup. The tycoon also said that Narsi could teach marketing in Indian Institute of Managements (IIMS).

A few days ago, Mahindra had tweeted about Narsi again. “Remember the cobbler Narsi Ram with the innovative banner ‘Zakhmi Jooton Ka Hospital?’ Our team had contacted him and conveyed my interest to invest in him. He said he wanted a good kiosk,” Mahindra tweeted, with a video of the designed kiosk for Narsi.
