WHILE THREE MILITANTS WERE KILLED NEAR THE LINE OF CONTROL IN NORTH KASHMIR’S TANGDHAR SECTOR, ANOTHER ULTRA WAS KILLED NEAR KASTURI NULLAH IN URI SECTOR

SRINAGAR: Four ultras have been killed since Saturday evening as the army foiled another infiltration bid in Tangdhar and Uri sectors of north Kashmir.

Three militants were killed near the Line of Control in north Kashmir’s Tangdhar sector on Saturday, officials said, adding that they were intercepted while making an attempt to sneak into the Valley. Soldiers had spotted a group of infiltrators, they said.

Earlier, the Indian and Pakistani soldiers had exchanged fire close to the LOC in Tangdhar.

“Three terrorists killed by army while infiltrating in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara today,” director general of police SP Vaid tweeted late on Saturday.

Army also confirmed the killing of three militants.

Another infiltrator was killed near Kasturi nullah in Uri sector on Sunday. The army spokesperson said they are searching the area for more infiltrators.

Police said Pakistani forces fired few mortar shells at Thajal-chranda area of Uri near the Line of Control on Saturday. “One shell hit the washroom belonging to one Mohammad Hussain, causing some damage,” police said.

There had been several incidents in the past weeks where army intercepted militants soon after they sneaked into the Valley. Four soldiers were also injured in firing with militants near the LOC in Nowgam sector last week.

In Gurez, three soldiers, including an officer, were killed when a group of militants was intercepted by the army on August 7. Next day, four more militants were killed in the upper reaches of Baramulla’s Rafiabad in yet another encounter.

The army said that the slain militants were foreigners who had recently entered the Valley after crossing the LOC.

The army officials have also blamed Pakistani soldiers for firing on Indian pickets to facilitate infiltration.

The army says militants are trying to infiltrate through Uri, Nowgam, Tanghdar and Gurez. Army officials claim that they have apprehensions about more infiltration attempts in the coming months.

There is a three-tier security in place besides latest electronic fencing to detect movement of militants on the LOC.
