KHAIRA REFUSES TO ACCEPT INTERIM CHIEF’S POST

-

KOTKAPURA : A day after the political affairs committee of the rebel Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) named him the ‘interim president’ of the party, rebel MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, has refused to accept the post.

“I respect the PAC’S decision, but I want to work for the party as a volunteer,” he added, addressing a gathering during the rebels’ Faridkot district convention on Wednesday.

Seven AAP MLAS, including Khaira, were present at the convention. He added, “Neither are we leaving the AAP nor are we making a new party. We are trying to clean and strengthen the party in the state.”

AAP’S Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann and the new leader of opposition Harpal Singh Cheema have, in the past, accused Khaira of wanting only top positions in the party hierarchy.

“The state body (led by Mann) has minimal performance on the ground in raising the issues of state after the polls debacle. This group indulged in conspiracy theories against me as shown by several videos that have gone viral,” he added. He attacked Punjab chief minister captain Amarinder Singh for failing to take appropriate action on Justice Ranjit Singh (retd) commission report.

Other AAP MLAS criticised Kotkapura AAP MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan. Rebel Jaitu MLA Baldev Singh claimed, “Sandhwan has been pressing party workers not to join the convention.”

“People must note the timings of decisions that party chief Arvind Kejriwal has taken. He apologised to

Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a defamation case at the time the Special Task Force (STF) submitted its report in the Punjab and Haryana high court. He sacked Khaira at a time, when justice (retd) Ranjit Singh commission report is all set to be tabled in the Punjab assembly,” claimed rebel AAP MLA from Mansa, Nazar Singh Manshahia.
