MEHTAB GILL PANEL SUBMITS 9TH REPORT

CHANDIGARH:THE Punjab government has taken action in 258 of the 344 complaints allowed by the Justice Mehtab Singh Gill (retd) Commission investigat­ing the false cases registered under the previous regime.

This was disclosed by Justice Gill while submitting his 9th interim report to Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh here on Thursday.

Giving details of the action taken, Gill said FIRS had been filed in the courts in 148 cases, while compliance of orders had been reported in 38. In another 33 cases, proceeding­s had been initiated under Section 182 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and action had been taken against erring police officials in 10 cases. Compensati­on had so far been awarded in 29 cases, he told the chief minister, citing feedback received from the nodal officers. He expressed satisfacti­on at the implementa­tion of the commission’s recommenda­tions.

An official spokespers­on said of the total 4,351 complaints received, as on August 1, 2018, the commission has disposed of 1,539 complaints, of which 1,195 have been dismissed. Bathinda district reported 47 cases of action taken by police for cancellati­on of FIRS, followed by 17 from Moga district, 13 from Ludhiana, 12 from Tarn Taran and 11 each from Amritsar and Ferozepur, according to data received from various districts.
