PATIALA: The Nabha woman who was arrested on Thursday for killing her 17-year-old son — a promising kabaddi player — with her paramour’s help has confessed that she murdered her father-in-law too in 2015, police said.

The boy, Sukhbir Singh, a resident of Chhintanwala village, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Monday. Initially, his mother Narinder Kaur, 38, had said that he was a drug addict, a claim that was vehemently denied by Sukhbir’s teammates and other family members.

Kaur and her alleged paramour Simerjit Singh Dogar, 32, who runs mobile shop in the village, were arrested after villagers blocked the state highway for over four hours, demanding a proper inquiry into the case.

Patiala senior superintendent of police Mandeep Singh Sidhu said the duo said they plotted the boy’s murder as he knew about his mother’s illicit relationship and had even asked her to snap all ties with Simerjit.

A week before the crime, the duo stopped contacting each other over phone to avoid any suspicion, said the SSP. “During interrogation, Simerjit said he sneaked into the Kaur’s house on Sunday late night while Sukhbir was sleeping. Both the accused overpowered the boy. Simerjit forcefully poured a can of pesticides into his mouth while her mother clutched his legs,” he added.

The SSP said after committing the crime, the duo dumped his body outside main gate of the house and later concocted a story that Sukhbir had committed suicide. “The police got suspicious after Narinder started pressurising them not to conduct autopsy,” the SSP added.

A PHONE CALL DID THEM IN

SSP Sidhu said while rummaging Simerjit’s call record, they found Sukhbir’s number on his call list. “After killing Sukhbir, Simerjit went back to his house. Narinder called Simerjit at 2.20 am her son’s mobile to know whether he had reached his home safely,” SSP said.

Later, she broke her son’s mobile phone and dumped it in the store .

AFFAIR STARTED IN 2014

After her husband Baljinder’s death in 2010 in a road accident, Narinder came in contact with Simerjit in 2014. “Simerjit was eying at Narinder’s five-acre land and therefore he motivated her to eliminate her son,” the SSP said. Police said the accused earlier planned to send Sukhbir abroad on study visa, but he failed in class X examination two years back.

TOLD VILLAGERS FATHER-IN-LAW DIED OF HEART ATTACK

During investigation, the accused also confessed to having killed her 65-year-old father-inlaw Jagdev Singh in 2015. Narinder told police that Jagdev came to know about her relationship and asked her to stop meeting him, said the SSP. “In June 2015, Narinder along with her paramour choked her father-in-law to death with the help of pillow, while he was sleeping. Later, she told villagers that he had died of a heart attack and cremated the body,” the SP added.
