Khattar immerses Vajpayee’s ashes in Yamuna, Saraswati

KARNAL: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and other BJP leaders immersed ashes of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Saraswati and Yamuna rivers in the state on Thursday.

Khattar, his cabinet colleagues and other BJP leaders immersed the ashes in Saraswati at Pehowa in Kurukshetr­a and in Yamuna at Hatihini Kund Barrage in Yamunanaga­r.

Earlier, hundreds of BJP leaders participat­ed in the Asthi Kalash Yatra, which covered several Haryana districts in the past two days.

Also, hundreds of people paid tributes to the former PM when the yatra passed through villages.

At Pehowa, the chief minister announced to name several big projects in the state after Vajpayee and said the state government will send a proposal to the Centre in this regard.

He said Vajpayee was a great leader, poet and human being and the people of the country had a great respect for him. “That’s why his ashes are being taken to various parts of the country so that people could pay their last respects to the great leader.”

Later, the chief minister also reached Hathini Kund Barrage in Yamunangar and immersed Vajpayee’s ashes in Yamuna.

Haryana education minister Ram Bilas Sharma, who was leading the Asthi Kalsh Yatra from Bahadurgar­h to Yamunanaga­r, said, “Thousands of people came out from their houses and paid their tribute to Vajpayee.”

Khattar was accompanie­d by BJP state president Subhash Brala, agricultur­e minister OP Dhankar, minister of state Krishan Bedi and local MLA Subhash Sudha.
