KARNAL: Nearly four years after he deserted the Congress to contest assembly elections from Kalayat constituency as an independent candidate, senior Jat leader Jai Prakash alias JP has expressed his desire to return to the Congress fold.

The former Hisar MP made this announcement during a joint press conference with AICC spokesperson and his political rival Randeep Surjewala in Kaithal.

“Ab meri bhi tension khatam or Surjewala ki bhi tension khatam, (the decision has relieved both of us from tension)” said JP, who is eyeing the Congress ticket form Kalayat assembly segment.

He had left the Congress just before the assembly elections in 2014 after the party had apparently denied him ticket from Kalayat. He contested as an Independent and won the elections.

Kaithal assembly seat, he said, “We have buried the differences and a final decision will be taken after discussing the issue with the party high command in Delhi,” he added.

Surjewala has termed the development significant and said it would give a boost to the fight for development of north Haryana.

“Now we have taken a pledge to continue our fight together as the differences were affecting the fight for the political rights of people living in northern districts”, he added.
