GURUGRAM: A 23-year-old female traffic constable was allegedly assaulted by two drunk women from Delhi after their car was impounded for drink driving in Sector 29 in the wee hours of Saturday, the police said.

The accused, both of whom are in their early 30s, were arrested on the spot and later released on bail by a city court, said Ram Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of the Sector 29 police station.

Indu Rani (23), the traffic constable, was injured as she fell on being assaulted, the FIR stated. This is the tenth case of police personnel being attacked in the city over the past month. Last week, a traffic constable, who was on duty, was assaulted by the driver of a private bus at Mahabir Chowk.

Medical examination of both the women proved that they were in an inebriated state, said Sunil Kumar, assistant sub-inspector of police, who is also the investigating officer in the case. While the woman who was driving the car told the police that she was a private tutor, the other woman said that she worked in the real estate sector. There was a third woman, who was also present in the car at the time of the incident. They were on their way back to Delhi after partying at a pub in Sector 29.

The incident took place around 12.40 am on Saturday, when the three women in their sedan were stopped by the police at a barricade near Crowne Plaza Hotel in Sector 29. “Alcometer test showed the woman, who was driving the car, was under the influence of alcohol. When we asked her for licence, she said that she was fined earlier and her licence was with the police,” Kumar said.

At this point, the other woman who was sitting next to the driver got out of the car and started abusing the police constable. “She used extremely abusive language,” Rani said.

“We impounded their car and hailed a cab to send them back to Delhi. It was at this point that the woman who was sitting next to the driver pulled the collar of my uniform and started assaulting me,” the constable said. Rani said that the woman driver did not have her licence as she was fined a week ago in Delhi for drink driving. The duo after allegedly assaulting the constable tried to slip into the cab and escape, but was stopped by the police.
