Heavy rains trigger mudslide in Shimla, leads to traffic snarls

-

SHIMLA: Torrential rains on Thursday triggered mudslides leading to traffic snarls in Shimla.

Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms caused flooding in nullahs and formed potholes on the stretch connecting the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital.

Traffic was disrupted due to debris blocking the roads.

The parked vehicles were also damaged due to the debris.

Electricity supply was disrupted in many localities.

The movement of vehicles on the Tutti Kandi-dhalli bypass was also affected.

The road near the Housing Board Colony in Sanjauli remained blocked for the day.

A retaining wall close to Vishnunagar caved in on Thursday, posing a threat to residents living in three houses nearby. “A few days back, the rain also damaged breast walls and houses in the Krishna Nagar locality. But the administration has not done anything so far,” former mayor and member of state secretariat of the Communist Party of India Sanjay Chauhan said.

Shimla received 20 millimeters of rain and the maximum temperature was recorded at 23.9 degree Celsius.

‘I AM NOT GOING ANYWHERE’

Addressing a public meeting in Mukam, Raje said: “I am not going anywhere. I am here and will return.” Lashing out at the Congress, the CM said: “They are running pillar to post to disrupt the Gaurav Yatra and break my direct connect with the people. I will use helicopter, travel by bus or walk but this Yatra will continue and I will keep interacting with my family.”

Raje said her government kept development and politics apart and focused on development for all without any discrimination.

The chief minister said that despite being the constituency of leader of opposition Rameshwar Dudi, her government fulfilled every possible demand of Nokha.

At a public meeting in RD 860 in Kolayat assembly seat area, Raje said despite the previous regime leaving a huge financial burden, her government managed to carry out development work.

“Congress did no work in 50 years. They only did politics in the name of development,” Raje said adding her government carried out development works based on the needs of the people.

“On one hand, there is a party that ruled for more than 50 years without fulfilling any of its promises.

On the other hand, there is a party that has done a lot of work beyond the imagination of Congress and that is visible on the ground,” Raje said in Loonkansar.

Raje also participated in a roadshow organised by the party in Bikaner city.
