KARNAL: Sunday will be a tough day for Congress workers in Kurukshetra as they will have to choose between two senior leaders of their party.

Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Congress legislature party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry will hold parallel rallies in Kurukshetra district on Sunday.

Hooda will launch the sixth phase of his ‘Jankranti Rath Yatra’ from Anaj Mandi, Pehowa, while Kiran Choudhry will address a ‘Parivartan Rally’ in Kurukshetra grain market after a small road show.

Supporters of Hooda and Choudhry have already been involved in a poster war, vying with each other to put up posters of their respective leaders at every important location in the district.

Interestingly, these leaders are not ready to admit any differences within the Congress leadership in the state as they claim that they are working to strengthen the party on the ground.

“I had announced the date for this rally about six months ago and there is no question of holding a parallel rally with anybody”, Kiran Choudhry told Hindustan Times. “The young organisers are very enthusiastic and they have also decided to conduct a road show. I am expecting a huge gathering in Kurukshetra as I have a huge support base in this region,” she added.

However, these rallies are being considered as a show of strength by both Hooda and Choudhry, who are trying to project themselves as top leaders of the Congress in Haryana.

A close aide to Hooda said, “Everybody has a right to hold rallies. We had declared dates of our rally much earlier. We cannot stop anybody as all leaders are working for the party.”

Even other Congress leaders like Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee Ashok Tanwar and AICC spokesperson Randeep Surjewala are also holding rallies and public meetings on every weekend in the state.

On Saturday, Tanwar held an ‘Adhikar Rally’ at Barwala in Hisar wherein he announced to hold protests at district headquarters against BJP governments at the Centre and in the state.
