SYL: INLD traders’ bandh evokes mixed response
CHANDIGARH: The ‘Haryana Bandh’ by traders on a call given by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) to press for early construction of the Sutlej-yamuna Link (SYL) and Dadupur-nalvi canal and protest against the rising fuel prices, among other issues, evoked a mixed response in the state on Saturday.
Shops remained shut in Ambala, Sirsa, Sonepat, Panipat, Rohtak and Kaithal districts.
INLD workers, led by the party’s local leaders, asked shopkeepers in some parts of the state, including Jind, Ambala and Jhajjar, to keep their shops shut to support the bandh.
Tight security arrangements were made by the police to prevent any untoward situation during the bandh. INLD MLA Abhay Chautala demanded the resignation of chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Talking to mediapersons here, he said the BJP government had lost its moral right to govern since the bandh call was given in protest of its inability to complete the SYL and Dadupur Nalvi canal, failure to implement the Swaminathan Commission report’s recommendations and rising prices of petrol and diesel.
He said an adjournment motion regarding the non-completion of SYL canal, abandonment of Dadupur Nalvi canal and indifference to the needs of the Mewat farmers would be brought in the current Vidhan Sabha session.
He said when the INLD is voted to power, it will constitute a traders’ commission to address traderelated issues.
