Three rob couple from posh Amritsar locality

AMRITSAR: In a daylight heist, three unidentifi­ed persons looted ₹35,000 and four tolas of gold worth ₹1.26 lakh from a Nepalese couple at gunpoint in city’s one of posh areas — Rani Ka Bagh — on Saturday.

The incident took place at around 12 noon when three men, one of them turbaned, entered the victim’s house in Mohindra Colony of Rani Ka Bagh area.

The victims, Sangeeta Rani ,42, her husband Kishan ,45, with their two sons Sagar ,24, and Santosh ,20, have been living on rent for the past 15 years. The couple works at a food joint.

Additional deputy commission­er of police (ADCP- city 2) Lakhbir Singh; Adcp-crime Harjit Singh have started the investigat­ion. The police also cordoned off the area but the accused managed to flee from the spot.

Sangeeta said, “During the time of incident, I and my husband were at the house while our sons had gone to the market. As the main gate was open, three unidentifi­ed men entered the house.”

“On asking them about their whereabout­s, the trio said they had come from Baba Budha Sahib and one of them pointed a gun towards me and the other two took my husband inside the house,”she told the police.

She said, “They thrashed us and demanded money, gold and also threatened to kill us, following which I gave them ₹35,000 and gold ornaments .They left after taking the items.”

One of the victim’s neighbour and also an eye-witness, Meenu Sehgal said, “I saw few men trying to flee using the roofs of the houses in the colony. After hearing shrieks from Sangeeta’s house, I reached there and called the police.”

ACCUSED PERSONS CAUGHT ON CCTV

SP Lakhbir Singh said they are examining the footage of the CCTVS installed in the area to ascertain the identity of the accused. The trio have been captured in one of the CCTVS, he said.“a case under Sections 379 B (snatching) and 448 (punishment for house-trespass) of the IPC was registered at Civil Line police station. The accused will be arrested soon,” he said.
