KARNAL: Resuming his Jan Kranti Yatra from Shahbad of Kurukshetra district, former chief minister (CM) Bhupinder Singh Hooda targeted the ruling BJP for its “failure to ensure safety and security of women in the state”.

“Hardly a day passes without any news of a gruesome crime against women in the state,” Hooda said, referring to the gangrape of 20-year-old girl in Rewari.he promised that if the Congress comes to power, a special squad would be set up to control crime against women.

During his road show, Hooda covered several villages of Shahbad and made tall promises to the people, appealing them to bring the Congress back to power.

Hooda further raised the issue of the Dadupur-nalvi canal and promised to complete the now defunct canal, which has already been denotified by the present government. “We will not only resume the construction of this canal but also extend it if we form the government,” Hooda said.

He slammed the BJP government for delay in disbursing the pending payments of sugarcane to farmers and promised the farmers that all crops, including sunflower, would be purchased on MSP if Congress was voted to power. “The BJP has failed to deliver on its promises and I am sure they will not win a single seat if they would seek votes on the implementation of their 2014 manifesto,” he added.

The former chief minister said, “Ten years of hardwork by the Congress government had put the state on the road to high growth, making Haryana the number one state in the country in development but the BJP government, which lacks experience and administrative understanding, and has made Haryana the number one state in crime.” Hooda also attacked the Indian National Lok Dal saying that the INLD was far from raising issues connected with the poor but the leader of opposition (Abhay Chautala) was now threatening to shoot the people in the head who are raising the people’s issues.
