CIBMS: India’s leap towards technologydriven border guarding
JAMMU: The additional director general (logistics) of the BSF, AK Sharma, on Monday, said CIBMS (comprehensive integrated border management system ) was a technical system, equipped with multiple sensors to immediately detect any activity on the border.
“It is an amalgamation of radar sensors, underground sensors, camera sensors and thermal imagers to detect any activity on the border and relay real time information to quick reaction teams (QRTS) on the computers at command control centres on the border,” he told Hindustan Times here.
He, however, said the efficacy of the CIBMS vis-à-vis underground trans-border tunnels has to be analysed. This system will catch activity beneath the ground to some extent.
“The CIBMS will be beneficial and a force-multiplier in border guarding. It can work under any weather conditions like fog, rains and at night,” he said.
It will be more effective on riverine gaps where fencing cannot be raised, he further added.
The system also has high definition cameras of 4k and 2k resolution that can see up to 4 kms, 2km and 500m during the night, depending upon the topography.
The ADG admitted that the BSF had been using sensors in the past as well, but now all the sensors have been put together with other technological advancements that can’t be divulged for security reasons.
