Sonepat villagers urge Modi to take ‘decisive action’ against Pakistan

KARNAL: A pall of gloom descended on Thana Kalan village of Sonepat district soon after the news of the death of BSF head constable Narender Kumar reached there.

The head constable of 176 Battalion of Border Security Force was brutally murdered by Pakistani troops in Ramgarh sub-sector of Samba district on Tuesday morning.

The residents of Thana Kalan gathered at the residence of Narender’s uncle, who lives in the village after his family had shifted to Delhi.

“All residents of our village are proud of Narender’s martyrdom. But we are pained as our soldiers are being killed every day and the government is not taking a decisive action against Pakistan,” said Narender’s elder brother Raj Singh.

“We appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take a decisive action against Pakistan for a permanent solution of this problem,” he added.

Village sarpanch Balram Singh, who is also a close friend of Narender, said, “The news of his death shocked the entire village as he was a great human being and did a lot for his family.”

“He shifted to Delhi about four years ago for better education of his children, but he used to come to the village regularly whenever he got leave. Last time he came here two months ago and met every one in his friend circle,” he added.

Born on June 2, 1968, Narender Kumar had joined the BSF on March 25, 1990.

He is survived by his wife Santosh Devi, and two sons Mohit Kumar, 20, and Ankit Kumar, 17.

Narender’s father, mother and a younger brother had died earlier. The villagers said that Narender’s wife and children will reach the village by late evening on Wednesday.

His body will be brought to the village by early Thursday morning and the cremation will take place around 9am.

Meanwhile, family members demanded government job for his elder son Mohit, besides other benefits provided by the government to a martyr.
