RPF starts drive to check theft in trains
JALANDHAR: The Jalandhar railway protection force (RPF) initiated a drive to check theft cases in running trains, plying via the city railway station from Sept 13.
“There has been a rise in theft cases on trains in the Eastern Railways, Central Railways and other divisions of Northern Railways. We have started the drive to check such incidents here,” said a RPF official.
The railway protection force will carry out checking on trains and platforms in civil uniform.
“Most of these cases occur when the criminal succeeds in striking a friendly conversation with the passenger. They usually offer biscuits, cold drinks or chips spiked with intoxicant substance and steal belongings when the passengers are unconscious,” railway protection force inspector BK Verma said.
Though no such incident has been reported from the Jalandhar city railway station this year.
The officials have asked passengers to be careful about such elements.
The official informed that similar drives are being carried out in all stations of the Ferozepur railway division.
As per the information gathered from the control centre, it received 236 complaints in two years; 128 in 2017 and 108 in 2018 so far on its railways security helpline number 182.
