HP bus mishap: Toll reaches 3 as 1 more succumbs to injuries

DHARAMSHAL­A: The number of casualties in the Chamba bus accident rose to three as a severely injured man succumbed to injuries at the Dr Rajendera Prasad Medical College,tanda on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as 82-year-old Chatru Ram, resident of village Niyangal, Chamba.

Two people, including a woman, were killed and 56 others were injured, when a private bus skidded off the road and overturned at Luna, in the tribal Bharmour sub-division of Chamba, late on Wednesday. The bus was on its way from Palampur to Chhatrari.

The other two deceased are Koshalya Devi, 50, resident of village Kunr, Bharmour and Makholi Ram, 65, of Padar village in Chamba tehsil.

Chamba superinten­dent of police, Monika Bhutungru said “Initial investigat­ion suggests the driver lost control while negotiatin­g a sharp curve.” She added the number of casualties could have been higher, had there been no crash barrier at the site to prevent the bus from plunging into Ravi River.

The villagers started the rescue operation before police team reached the accident site.

The injured were admitted to the hospitals at Bharmour and Chamba, while seven grievously injured were shifted to the government medical college in Tanda.

PVT BUS HITS ELECTRIC POLE IN SOLAN, 11 INJURED

Meanwhile, 11 people were injured when the private bus they were travelling in collided with an electric pole at Kandaghat in Solan district on Thursday.

The bus was on its way from Solan to Shimla.

Kandaghat police station in-charge DR Guleria said before the police reached the accident site, the locals had already launched the rescue operation.

Initially, it has come to light that the accident took place as the bus driver suffered a heart attack, following which he lost the control over the vehicle and hit an electric pole, Guleria said.

“The bus got stuck after hitting the pole otherwise it could have been a fatal accident,” he added.

Meanwhile, the driver has been undergoing treatment at a local hospital, while other injured were discharged after getting the first aid.

A case has registered and investigat­ions are on, police said.
