Apropos ‘The Monday Interview (HT Page 6, September 24)’, former chief minister Omar Abdullah has actually reflected the failure of politician­s of Jammu and Kashmir. Even as they enjoy the fruits of special status of the very sensitive border state, they expect the Centre to give them huge packages. Meant for developmen­t, these funds are then siphoned off and never used for public good. This is the main cause of disgruntle­ment of the youth and the residents of the state. The present generation of politician­s must change and serve people.

To usher in better scale-efficiency, higher productivi­ty, robust financial health of RRBS, improved financial inclusion and greater credit flow to rural areas are ambitious targets. All this requires monitoring on a daily basis, which is sadly missing at all levels of operation in the Indian economy. To provide credit and other facilities to small farmers, agricultur­al labourers and artisans need a boost.
