Haryanvis keen on sending their children to army: CM

KHATTAR PRESIDES OVER STATELEVEL EVENT ON SECOND ANNIVERSAR­Y OF SURGICAL STRIKES DAY IN JHAJJAR

HISAR: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday said that over 10% armymen in the country are from Haryana.

Speaking on the state-level function at Jhajjar to mark the second anniversar­y of surgical strikes, Khattar said, “Haryana is a very small state, but the contributi­on of people of Haryana in the Indian Army is very good. Around 10% to 11 % of armymen are from Haryana. the people of the state are keen on sending their chidern to army.”

He said, “It is due to the Indian Army that all Indian feels safe at their houses. The surgical strikes carried out by the army two years ago (to destroy terror camps across the India-pakistan border) is a matter of pride.”

Agricultur­e minister OP Dhankar said, “Armymen from Haryana always dream about sending their son and daughters to join the forces.”

Khattar and Dhankar watched an exhibition of waepans and artillery organised by the army on this occasion.

JAT PROTESTERS STOPPED BY COPS

Meanwhile, several activists of All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS), including a large number of women, who were heading towards the venue, were stopped by the police near Rashalwala village of Jhajjar district. The AIJASS had last month decided to oppose the government functions attended by Khattar and Dhankar to protest against the Haryana government’s alleged failure to keep their promise to withdraw cases against Jat youths in connection with the February 2016 agitation and ensure reservatio­n

for the community.

ARMY HOLDS SHOW FOR STUDENTS IN HISAR

Meanwhile, Maj Gen JJ Mathews, general officer commanding of the Hisar militaryst­ation inaugurate­d ‘Parakram Parv’ exhibition in Hisar.

The army organised a number of events to showcase advanced weaponary and equipment of the army, and held a live demonstrat­ion of a war-like situation by mechanised forces, besides screening of a movie. More than 5,000 students from various schools watched these events.

Maj Gen JJ Mathews said the children were invited to watch these shows, so that they can know about the army and feel encouraged to join the forces.

BJP state chief Subhash Barala and Lt Gen DP Vats (retd) attended a function at Fatehabad while Haryana Bureau of Public Enterprise­s Chairman Kamal Gupta presided over an event organised the Guru Jambheshwa­r University of Science and Technology (GJU&ST).
