GURUGRAM: Construction work on the Delhi-gurugram-behror section of the Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS) project, which was approved by the Haryana government in June, is likely to start by March 2019.

Rao Inderjit Singh, the Union minister of state for planning, made the announcement two days after a review meeting in Delhi on Wednesday to discuss various aspects of the project, to expedite the process from drawing board to execution.

The 107-kilometre high-speed rail network, which passes through Gurugram, will connect Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and terminate at SNB (Shahjahanpurneemrana-behror) station in Rajasthan. The network will have four stations in Delhi, eight in Gurugram, three in Rewari and one in Rajasthan. Of the total network, 73 kilometres will be elevated, while 34 kilometres will be underground.

Singh said that the alignment of the rail corridor in Haryana has been granted an in-principle approval by the Haryana government and NCRTC’S board of directors. “An additional railway station has been added at Bilaspur Chowk, taking into account the mobility needs near this point,” said Singh.

Singh said that at the Wednesday meeting, all stakeholders were asked to start work at the earliest due to the importance of this corridor, due to high commuter and commercial traffic. “The work should start by next March, as issues pertaining to land acquisition, alignment and design are being finalised. All agencies are working in close coordination,” said Singh.

Union minister for housing and urban affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, and senior officials from NCTRC, NHAI and other agencies were present in the meeting.

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is also playing a key role, by helped in integrating the alignment on Old Delhi-gurugram road with a proposed flyover and sub-project at Atul Kataria Chowk, said officials.

The multimodal integration plan in Gurugram has also been finalised taking into consideration the Bawal Metro, the proposed Metro in Gurugram and the Rapid Metro.
