- HT Correspondents

BARGARI/KOTKAPURA: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rebels, led by Sukhpal Singh Khaira, took out a protest march from Kotkapura to Bargari demanding action against those responsible for sacrilege incidents and police firing on anti-sacrilege protesters in October 2015.

The rebel group joined the radical Sikh congregation at Bargari. Some Sikh radical organisations also participated in the protest march.

Addressing the gathering, Khaira said: “If justice cannot be given in sacrilege incident cases, then how can people expect justice in any other criminal case,” he said.

Khaira asked the state government to book former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, his son and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, besides the then DGP Sumedh Singh Saini for police firing incidents at Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan within 15 days.

“Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh should see the support people have given to the protest march. They joined the march to tell the state authorities that they could no longer tolerate injustice in sacrilege incident cases,” he said.

Khaira also asked Sukhbir to tender an apology at the Akal Takht for terming the Bargari “morcha” protesters agents of Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence. AAP MLAS led by Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann made a symbolic presence at Bargari and left the venue before the arrival of Khaira faction.
