MP Aujla’s brotherinl­aw shoots self at farmhouse

SUICIDE NOTE RECOVERED Blames 17 people; was unable to recover loan money: Cops

AMRITSAR: Congress member of parliament (MP) from Amritsar, Gurjit Singh Aujla’s brother-inlaw Harpreet Singh alias Sonu allegedly shot himself dead at his farmhouse in Bua Nangli village, 17 km from here, on Wednesday.

Harpreet, 40, shot himself with a licensed weapon, said police.

As per police, Harpreet was upset after being unable to recover the money (in crores) he had loaned to several people. In his suicide note, he has blamed 17 people for his death, said police.harpreet was the owner of Kohri Trading Company at Rajasansi grain market.

The suicide note reads: “I am committing suicide for which I hold Mandeepak Singh aka Manna of Dalam village responsibl­e. He owes me ₹90 lakh. He has been avoiding me abnd not even been picking up my call.”

“Also, Varun Sachdeva who has encroached my flat in Punjabi Bagh, Delhi, is responsibl­e for my death. I had also lent money to few farmers but they are not paying me back.they should also be held liable,” the note states.

The note also mentions names of Manjinder Singh of Adliwal, Ladi of Bua Nangli, Bittu Pehalwan of Sarangra, Sahib Singh of Ladhowal, Veer Singh of Kalewal, Satnam Singh of Roriwala, Daljit Singh of Mirakot, Subeg Singh of Bohlian, Balbir Singh of Jasraur, Rashpal Singh Chhina, Ajit Singh, Rashpal Singh of Mirakot, Karam Singh, Kala Saroop Singh of Adliwal, Dr Pavittar Singh.

According to his family, Harpreet committed suicide at around 8:30 am. “He went to the guard room of the farmhouse in the morning and shot himself with a guard’s riffle,” a family member pleading anonymity said.

As per the police the guard was not present in the farmhouse during the time of incident.the deceased is survived by his mother Sarabjit Kaur, wife Amandeep Kaur and two children—agamjit Singh (in Class 3) and Aasmeen Kaur (in Class 9).

Getting informatio­n about the incident, deputy superinten­dent of police (DSP) Attari, Amandeep Kaur and station house officer (SHO) Rajasansi, Sukhjinder Singh, along with a police team, reached the spot and started investigat­ion.

The SHO said, “Several people owed Harpreet money. Instead of paying him back, they were harassing Harpreet. As per preliminar­y investigat­ion, the accused persons owed him around ₹2.5 crore.”

Senior superinten­dent of police (Ssp-rural) Parampal Singh said on the complaint of the deceased’s wife, a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against 17 persons at Rajasansi police station.“after conducting his postmortem, the body has been handed over to his family members,” said the SSP.
