250 CASES IN 5 MONTHS, SIRSA TURNS INTO ‘DRUG HUB’
CHANDIGARH:UNDER the anti-drug campaign christened as ‘Prabal Prahar’, the Haryana Police on Thursday claimed to have registered 250 cases and arrested 409 people in district Sirsa alone in the past five-and-a-half months.
A police spokesperson said large quantity of narcotics was seized in Sirsa that included nearly 5 kg heroin, 16kg opium, 29 kg ganja, over 2,200 kg of poppy husk and ‘doda post’, 3 lakh restricted drug pills, 1,009 restricted injections and 34,100 restricted capsules from the possession of the arrested accused during this period.
The spokesperson said police have tightened the noose around the criminals and anti-national elements. The Sirsa police was acting tough to curb smuggling of narcotics in the district, especially in the bordering areas with Rajasthan and Punjab, the spokesperson said
The police have urged people to come forward fearlessly and share information against the sale, consumption and use of narcotics in the state.
Meanwhile, director general of police (DGP) BS Sandhu on Wednesday said modern police stations were being constructed across the state and that infrastructure was being upgraded to provide better living and working facilities to its officers and officials. The DGP was speaking after inaugurating the building of Naggal police station in Ambala. Earlier, the staff there was working from a rented accommodation.
He said a proposal to set up a cyber police station in Faridabad has been forwarded to the government and it will open shortly.
He said the crackdown on illegal trade of drugs was among the top priority of the police and a common secretariat for data and information sharing on drugs has been established in Panchkula.
“We are working to make the society completely drug-free. The special task force is also supplementing the efforts in this direction,” he said.
