MC commissioner to take up matter with higher authorities

JALANDHAR: Municipal commissioner Diprava Lakra on Saturday said he will take up the matter, concerning MLA Sushil Kumar Rinku’s altercation with the municipal corporation (MC) team and MC joint commissioner Aashika Jain, with senior authorities.
Jalandhar west MLA Sushil Kumar Rinku on Friday had threatened IAS officer Aashika Jain when she was leading a demolition drive at Basti Danishmanda against the illegal construction in the area.
The MLA, along with the residents, had opposed the move and exchanged heated arguments with the official.
“We will take up the matter with senior authorities on Monday,” said Diprava Lakra.
The incident also met with criticism from public when a video of the MLA arguing with the MC joint commissioner surfaced on the social media.
The MLA was seen threatening the joint commissioner, “Aap ladies hai, aapki jagah koi gents hota toh phir mein batata ki kaise mein behave karta hun (You are a woman, had it been a man, I would have shown how i behave).”
He further said, “Kanoon yaha par logo ka chalega, aapka kanoon nahi chalega (Public will dictate the rules, your rules will not work here).”
“Local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu should see the problems being faced by the public. Though he comes here, meets the officials and people, still there has been no solution. Corruption continues in the municipal corporation office. It's our responsibility to facilitate people,” MLA Rinku had added.
Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh also expressed his disappointment over the event and said they are legislators and Rinku could have personally requested the joint commissioner to conduct the demolition drive after a day or two.
