12 DRUG PEDDLERS HELD IN 24 HOURS

AMRITSAR/TARNTARAN: Continuing its crackdown on drug peddlers, the police of Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts have arrested as many as 12 persons and recovered over 18,000 drug tablets, capsules, and 5 gm heroin from their possession in last 24 hours.

Tarn Taran district police have arrested two persons, including a ‘fake doctor’ with 16,800 intoxicate­d drug pills and Amritsar district police nabbed 10 accused recovering around 1,000 drug tablets, and 5 gm heroin.

Tarn Taran senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Darshan Singh Mann said a team of crime investigat­ion agency (CIA) led by assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Narinder Singh was patrolling in Saido village.

“The police team got a tip-off that one Bhagwan Singh of Jodh Singh Wala, a fake doctor, has been selling drug tablets from his house. After getting the informatio­n, the team conducted a search at Bhagwan’s home and seized 12,000 tablets of Tramadol, 4,800 tablets of Alprazolam, following which Bhagwan was arrested,” said Mann.

He said the cops are investigat­ing from where the accused purchased the drug medicines and his customers.

In another case, ASI Kuldeep Singh of Chabhal police station arrested Kabal Singh aka Kabi of Panjwar village during patrolling and recovered 730 tablets from his possession.

Similarly, ASI Lakhbir Singh of C-division police station arrested Karan Kumar aka Monu of Bhihiwind Mohala with 150 tablets and ASI Vijay Kumar of A-division police station arrested Monu Bhatia and Baksh of Ghee Mandi with 126 and 100 tablets, respective­ly.

The other accused persons are Sukhwinder Singh of Udeynangal arrested with 65 tablets, Manjit Singh of Tola Nangal arrested with 4 gm heroin, Sharanjit Singh of Jabowal with 80 pills, Raj Kumar of Theerewal with 40 drug tablets.
