- Leena Dhankhar

GURUGRAM: The Sector 56 police station has turned into a fortress over the last two days. The personal security officer (PSO) accused of killing the wife of an additional sessions judge and leaving their son struggling for life is being questioned there, because of which entry of visitors has been restricted. The police said people with only grave complaints are being allowed to go in, and after proper frisking. For all other matters, visitors are being addressed at the entrance gate.

Narender Khatana, station house officer, Sector 56, said they have deployed two constables at the gate to vet complainants. “The functioning of the station remains unchanged, but we have restricted entry due to safety and security issues as long as we question the accused,” Khatana said.

Head constable Mahipal Singh was arrested on Saturday for shooting the judge’s wife and son outside Arcadia Market in Sector 49. The police on Saturday constituted a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the shooting under the supervision of the deputy commissioner of police (east) Sulochna Gajraj to figure out his motive. The accused has not given any clear reason so far, the police said.

His relatives were also questioned at the Sector 56 police station. Teams have taken him to a few locations after his arrest, including to the district court, where he was produced under heavy security deployment.

Plainclothes police personnel are keeping vigil to make sure no one targets the accused, as his motive is still to be ascertained, a senior officer said.

A police control room van is also deployed outside the police station.
