Opposition has over 12 CM hopefuls in MP: PM

-

NEWDELHI:HITTING out at the Congress ahead of the crucial assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that the opposition party had more than a dozen chief ministerial aspirants and that the state’s young people “remain positive” about work done by his government.

The PM was addressing booth-level Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers from Mumbai and states such as Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.

Replying to a question from a BJP worker in Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh, Modi took a swipe at his rivals.

“The Congress has three CM aspirants. And they are pulling each other’s legs. There must be more than a dozen more aspirants who are waiting for these three to fall down.

If there are more than a dozen CM aspirants fighting against each other, do you think they will help in your development?” Madhya Pradesh goes to the polls on November 28 to elect representatives to the 230-member assembly of the state where the BJP has been in power three terms.

A senior Congress leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, rejected Modi’s remarks as frivolous and said, “In MP all Congress leaders are working together to defeat the BJP.

There is no question of any competition for the CM’S post.” The PM accused the Congress of ignoring the legacy of leaders outside the Gandhi-nehru families. “We respect everyone, whoever has worked for India,” he said, alleging that the Congress had overlooked the contribution of Sardar Patel and BR Ambedkar. Back on Madhya Pradesh, Modi claimed that the Opposition doesn’t have any issue to flag.
