J&K: Locals of Trichal village allege atrocities by army

SRINAGAR: A few hours after the security forces were targeted by the militants with an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, the locals of south Kashmir’s Trichal village alleged that they were harassed by the Army officers post the incident.

Alleging atrocities by army personnels, the villagers said that soon after the blast on Thursday night, the ‘furious’ soldiers returned to village after few hours and forced themselves inside their houses.

“The furious soldiers returned back after the blast and entered our houses.they started beating everyone, including old men and women, and ransacked the houses,” said a villager.

According to him, around eleven people were injured and were taken to the district hospital for treatment.

“Some of the injured had received severe injuries,” the doctors said.

On Thursday night, nine soldiers were injured when militants triggered an IED that was placed under a small bridge in Tahab area.

The injured army personnel were rushed to the local camp and were shifted to Army base hospital in Srinagar.

“The injured soldiers are out of danger,” confirmed Jammu and Kashmir director general of police Dibagh Singh.

‘WE WILL LOOK INTO THESE ALLEGATION­S’

Army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said the allegation­s that civilians were thrashed after the blast are being ascertaine­d.

“We will look into these allegation­s,’’ he said.

Director general of police Dilbagh Singh said that no official complaint has been received by police.

“No complaint has been lodged regarding the incident. In case of an official complaint about thrashing the villagers by Army personnels, we will verify and look into it,” the director general of police said.

‘HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION’

While posting a picture of one of the injured on social media, Hurriyat chairmam Mirwaiz Umar Farooq termed the incident as ‘continuanc­e of the human rights violations’ in Kashmir.
