Gurugram’s Iffco Chowk flyover for traffic going to Jaipur to open by December 31

GURUGRAM: The flyover at Iffco chowk, for Jaipur-bound traffic, will be operational by the last week of December. The construction of the flyover had been interrupted because of a delay in shifting a 220kv high-tension tower.

However, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) said on Friday that work on building the underground duct and laying cables has been initiated and would take another 45 days to complete. “Once the cables are laid, they will be tested, and the process of dismantling the transmission towers will start after that. The flyover will be functional by December 31,” Saurabh Singhal, NHAI consultant, said.

Though the dismantling of the high-tension towers was to be done by power transmission companies, Singhal said they decided to take this project up on their own, and to get it done through a private contractor to expedite the process. “Usually, it takes almost 1.5 to two years to get the clearances, and complete the work, but we managed to do it in six months by hiring a private firm. The NHAI agreed to make the payment to the agencies concerned, which helped a lot,” he said. The flyover at Iffco chowk is meant for commuters bound for Jaipur from Delhi and Gurugram.

Apart from the flyover, the highway authority will also make functional a u-turn flyover at Iffco chowk also for Jaipurbound traffic, in November, Singhal said. This project was halted because a 66kv high tension tower and a Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) station came in the way of the alignment, he added.

Singhal said the project contractor has laid the underground power cables, which have been energised and will be tested for two more days.
