15-year-old commits suicide in Kathua, parents hold protest

JAMMU : A day after a 15-year-old boy was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his home in Bandhor in Kathua district, the parents along with locals staged a protest against the school authorities for allegedly harassing the child.
The protesters blocked the Billawar-mahanpur road in protest and demanded immediate arrest of the school principal.
Deceased’s father Surinder Gupta said, “My son was harassed by the school management and under their terror he committed suicide.”
Vasu Gupta, a Class 9 student of Sacred Heart School Convent School, allegedly committee suicide on Wednesday.
His father said that Vasu was not attending the school for the past few days.
Soon after his death on Wednesday, the family staged a protest in front of the school and alleged allegations of harrasment against them which forced their son to take the extreme step.
“The police is shielding the school administration as despite registration of an FIR no arrests have been made in the case so far,” said one of the protesters.
The protest was later lifted after MLA and legislative assembly speaker Nirmal Singh informed protesters that a special investigation team has been constituted to probe the matter.
“We have registered a case and initiated investigation. We will soon summon school management for questioning,” said Billawar SHO inspector Vijay Sharma said.
